An update on our fund, September 2020

In April, we launched our Covid Community Fund, with the aim of helping our members facing financial hardship due to the impact of Covid-19.

After a truly staggering fundraising effort, the fund is now closed, and no longer accepting donations.

To all of you who donated, including our staff, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And thank you from the people you’ve been able to help. We matched the £15,000 you donated in the month of July 2020, bringing the total amount raised by our community to over £75,000.

We’ve helped over 750 members who qualified with grants of £100 each.  For many people, it's enough to significantly ease the burden, and let them know that our community care. Your response has humbled us and made us all the more determined to continue our fight against fuel poverty and social injustice in Britain today. We’ll give you a further update later in the year, and the Fund will be fully audited as part of our annual audit process.

What's next?

Our Fund may have closed, but our commitment to supporting our members through the ongoing pandemic remains. Earlier this year , People’s Energy became a Community Interest Company (CIC), meaning that we're now officially registered as a social enterprise, existing to benefit our community rather than private shareholders. As part of this, we’ll be setting up a dedicated Community Interest Company fund, which will allow us to finance initiatives that support our main social objective: to end fuel poverty. We’re in the early stages of planning these initiatives right now. Once we’ve firmed up what those plans will be, and how you can help – we’ll let you know.
